What if I told you that Estrogen is one of the most powerful hormones in the human body whether you be a man or a woman; but ultimately it is what makes a woman a feminine woman. Estrogen imparts women their softness, their curves, and breasts and helps to regulate a woman’s passage through menstruation, fertility, and menopause. Coming back to my first sentence – the fact is that both male and female bodies make estrogen though in different quantities. A woman needs high levels of estrogen and low levels of testosterone. A man needs high levels of testosterone but low levels of estrogen.
Actually, Estrogen is not just a single hormone. It is composed of a group of three different but related hormones – estrone, estradiol, and estriol. There are three hundred different tissues in the body that is equipped with estrogen receptors. What this implies is that a wide range of tissues and organs, including the brain, liver, bones, and skin are affected by estrogen. The uterus, urinary tract, breasts, and blood vessels also depend upon estrogen to stay in shape.
It is a fact that many menopausal women have urinary “leakage problems” from losing estrogen, and many menopausal women have to urinate often; sometimes constantly through the day. But this is easily corrected by bringing her estrogen levels back to normal.
Symptoms of an estrogen deficiency include:
- weight gain
- an apple-or pear-shaped body
- sweating and hot flashes
- bladder infections
- watery eyes
- low libido
- heart palpitations
- low bone density
- painful intercourse
How Do You Know If Your Estrogen Levels Are Low
Estrogen levels can be determined with a blood or saliva test. Even if you are at an age where you are too young to experience estrogen loss, it is advisable to get a hormone panel done each year so that you can evaluate if there is an estrogen decline year after year and correct it immediately.
More importantly as a feminine woman, you also have to be able to get in touch with your feelings to understand when your hormones are declining or getting out of balance. The better you understand this, the more your doctor will be able to help you. If you are in touch with your body you will immediately sense that something is wrong. Check our checklist above to see if any of these symptoms are suddenly appearing and pay attention to the way you are feeling. Your Anti Aging doctor will be able to help you balance your hormones and make you feel good again.
As an anti aging consulting doctor in Mumbai, I suggest to my patients that they keep a journal for the first three months and mark down how they feel on each day of the month. If any of the symptoms listed are part of your day, mark it down and you will have an accurate record for your doctor to evaluate. Symptoms are a sign of imbalance. This is not something to bear with. Bearing with it will only keeps you in an imbalanced state, and that is dangerous in the long term.
